Since its first days in 1959 as a small cabaret theatre on Chicago’s north side, The Second City hasn’t just launched the careers of countless comedic greats – it blazed the path for an entire genre of comedy. December 11-13, the legendary company renowned for spot-on political, cultural and topical improv will mark its golden anniversary with the festival and benefit Celebrating 50 Years of Funny.
The party begins on the Mainstage Friday, December 11, with the SCTV Reunion – a benefit for The Second City Alumni Fund featuring alumni Joe Flaherty, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Catherine O’Hara, Harold Ramis, Martin Short, Dave Thomas and other guests. The festival will also include a unique look into the fascinating lives of many Second City alums and screenings of various past theatre performances, alumni productions, and more.
Alumni and current ensemble members will perform side-by-side on both the Mainstage and e.t.c. stages during the evening of December 12. These exceptional performances will feature one act of the current cast and one act of some of the most memorable names, faces, and characters of the 50-year history of The Second City.
All events will take place at The Second City’s Wells Street home. Check ticket availability and the complete schedule at 50th Anniversary Festival.
