Celebrate the arts in the streets of downtown Green Bay and be part of the excitement as the 28th Annual ARTSTREET event takes stage Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 28, 29 and 30. The event will showcase 200 visual artists from throughout the country exhibiting for sale original works. Performing arts will be highlighted on three stages featuring a blend of jazz, blues, classical, dance and theater. There will be edible arts offering lots of gourmet treats and ethnic specialties. A children’s area will be featured offering a multitude of creative hands-on art projects for kids. Information booths and special exhibits by community organizations will be represented on Cultural Street.
The Joffrey Ballet, Chicago’s top ballet company and one of the leading companies in the world, is preparing for a legendary new season beginning with the premiere of Lar Lubovitch’s three-act ballet Othello October 14-25. Robert Joffrey’s classic The Nutcracker, a Chicago holiday tradition, will be presented December 11-27. Sir Frederick Ashton’s Cinderella – set to Serge Prokofiev’s brilliant score – returns February 17-28. And the Joffrey presents three memorable ballet experiences each evening April 28-May 9 in Eclectica – including Gerald Arpino’s Reflections, and world premieres by James Kudelka and Jessica Lang.
Joffrey performs at Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, the National Landmark Historic Theatre and crowning achievement of architects Dankmar Adler and Louis Sullivan which also hosts renowned touring dance companies.
In the Auditorium Theatre, a facility Frank Lloyd Wright called “The greatest room for music and opera in the world – bar none,” the acclaimed Miami City Ballet will perform works by George Balanchine, Marius Petipa and Twyla Tharp October 2-4. Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet takes the stage November 14-15 to present Crystal Pite’s Ten Duets on a Theme of Rescue, Didy Veldman’s frame of view and Jo Strømgren’s Sunday, Again.
Ballet Folklorico de Mexico de Amalia Hernandez will thrill audiences with elaborate dances supported by live music and ornate costumes March 13-14. One of Russia’s most esteemed companies, The Tchaikovsky Ballet, will present Petipa’s classic Sleeping Beauty March 20-21. And Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will bring their stunning African-American artistic expression and American modern dance tradition to Auditorium Theatre March 24-28.
