Lyric Opera of Chicago promises that its 55th season will transport audiences from heaven to hell and several points in between!
For the widely acclaimed company’s gala opening night on September 26, audiences will walk the red carpet into Civic Opera House to enjoy a spectacular production of Tosca. Other highlights of this festive evening include hors d’oeuvres and desserts and, following the performance, the black-tie Opera Ball at the Hilton Chicago.
Throughout the 2009-2010 season, Lyric Opera will continue to dazzle. Two productions – Gounod’s Faust and Berlioz’s The Damnation of Faust – will offer different views of the legendary “deal with the devil.” Audiences will travel to Renaissance Spain via Verdi’s Ernani, to the banks of Russia’s Volga River in Janacek’s Katya Kabanova, to the ballrooms of early 20th century Paris in Lehar’s The Merry Widow, to a charming Italian village in Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love, and, in the final production of the season, to 18th century Seville in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro.
A wide array of concerts, lectures, tours, galas and other special events will be offered to enhance the opera experience. Find complete information at Lyric Opera of Chicago.
