Boat Safe, Boat Smart, Boat Sober

With the weather changing again to spring, it is never to early to start talking about boating safety.  After hearing about the 2 NFL players who were swept out to see, it should make us realize that we aren’t invincible.  One of the more stupid things people do is to drink and go boating.

At the time, I can see why people don’t think it’s a big deal.  You are out for a weekend, and what’s wrong with having a couple of beers?  Well, it is the same as getting behind the wheel of car (you just don’t hear about Boating OUIs quite as much).  Would you get drunk and drive your car?  Most people wouldn’t and just don’t make that same connection when they go boating.  You are still driving a vehicle that can kill and/or hurt people.

Law enforcement is really getting tough on this (and for good reason).  Take a look:

Getting drunk and driving a boat is just stupid. I just hope that everyone uses their brains this summer anddoesn’t drink and drive their car, their boat, or really any other vehicle out there.  Could you forgive yourself if anything happened to either yourself, your family, or even a complete stranger?
