If you live in the Chicagoland area, this is something you need to do. This festival happens once a year, and it is always the weekend after Labor Day. My family and I have went several years now, and each year it keeps getting better. The best part — Its free! Yes, I said free. They have something for everyone there too. They have a beer garden and live music all weekend. They actually have two music stages! They have a food area where you can try some of the local places to eat. This year they even had a rock climbing wall!
Madison’s (my 4 year old) most favorite part of this is the firefighter display.

As you can see, Madison loved this and that it isn’t a little set up. It is huge and the kids love it! This is all she talked about all the way there. They also have bathtub races for the older kids too. They have the jumpy things too. They also had a blow up train the kids cold work their way through and huge blow up slides the kids can go down. My only complaint with this is that a lot of these had kids manning them (like 12 year olds). However, it was free so I can’t complain too much. I personally enjoyed the huge craft show that they had also!
They also had clowns blowing up balloons, a guy walking around on stilts, and face painting!

Now, you did miss it for this year, but don’t miss it next year!

That looks like a lot of fun for the kiddos! I love our local FREE events like that too!
I love the little firefighter gear – the kids must have an awesome time. Good to see you at IZEAFest Lisa!
Thanks Heather! They did have a good time!
Z and I LOVE street fairs! We had one here in our little hometown of Morgan Hill about three weeks back and the “live music” consisted of a high school kid on a folding chair playing his electric guitar through a ‘pocket’ amp
I love community festivals. There is always great things for all ages. Take care! Christina
Looks like the weather in the great north is still nice. Are the leaves changing yet, or is that closer to November these days?
Are there events for the kid-less?
Makes me wish I lived closer to that area. Love the face painting.
Hi Lisa!
I can imagine my soon to be 3 year old enjoying the same activities. Last summer we had a children’s day event at the nearest play park a couple of blocks away. Complete with songs, dances, and magic performances. Fortunately we went last year, because this year there was no such event. So, any great events, try not to miss if you can!
That looks like a great day out for the children and the beer tent sounds great for the adults too!
Looks like a ton of fun! Madison looks so adorable with her face painted up! How long did that last? Did it get in her eyes at all?
When I lived in Texas, we always went to a free street fair in Richardson (twice a year) and we always had so much fun!
Looks like fun. I miss going to fetes and fairs like this, there just doesn’t seem to be any around at the moment.
Free is ALWAYS a good thing, but free AND something that teaches kids about safety makes it way better! We have a program around here that runs every year just after the end of the school year called Safety City, where they teach kids going into kindergarten bike safety, fire safety and things like that. It’s a fantastic program!
My boys loved anything to do with fire engines and firemen when they were young. Their father is still a volunteer fireman and EMT.
She looks so cute in the firefighter outfit. It sounds like a fun time for everyone, kinda makes me wish I lived in the area.
Looks like a fantastic place for the kids! The younguns’ look ;like they are enjoying it too!
wow, that looks like so much for kids! I wish i was a kid…..I’m too grown-up for fun stuff.
@Houndsgood — Not yet. Though we are getting close to that time.
@rattitude 2 words — Beer tent.
They did have the beer tent and a music stage and vendors and a craft show, so there was definitely things for the adults.
@Lisa – It lasted until we washed her face off that night. Nothing in her eyes and she sat remarkably well getting it done. It costed me $5 but that was the only money we actually spent there!
@Holly – The firefighter thing was just a small part of the activities. It just happens to be Madison’s favorite. She remembered doing it last year too!
@windyridge – They definitely would have loved this then!
Sounds like a lot of fun! My kids also love the firefighter displays.
I like the butterfly face painting. I bet your daughter loved it.
