All Travel, All The Time

Bill and I have been struggling this whole summer so far trying to decide where to take the kids on vacation this year.  With my kids only being 4 and 1, it is a hard call.  I do not want to be spending a ton of money on a trip they are not going to remember.  That being said and with gas prices being so high, we have decided to stay home and vacation.  We live right next to Chicago, and never have any time to enjoy it!  Being that Bill hates to drive downtown more than he has to, we are looking at staying maybe one night (maybe even two) with the kids downtown.  There is a ton of stuff to do in Chicago like Navy Pier, Children’s Museum, The Museum of Science and Industry, The Aquarium, and The Field Museum.  This is just a few things that are just a few blocks away from one another.  On top of there being a ton of things to do, there area also a ton of hotels to pick from.  I personally think we need one with a pool and continental breakfast if we have the kids with.  I love that Hotels Combined has the ability to search on the very parameters that I want.  It makes it so easy to find exactly what I want.  Our plan is to become a tourist in our very own town and visit all the places we never have time for!

Where are you going on vacation this summer?

Planning ahead is your number one tip for your strategy to find your very best deal for your discount travel and vacations. One of the best things you can do to get your best deal is to be flexible with your schedule.

Traveling with kids is always an adventure. You’ve already planned your activities…however have you ever thought about taking what I like to call…

    “the get lost tour”

I’ve done it in Hawaii and New York and had a ball. Simply get on the bus and go…that’s it…simple.

  2. California Vacations Said,

I think a lot of people are enjoying destinations near their homes this year. In my experience, little ones pretty much only remember the hotel pool, anyway. :-) Your plan sounds like an excellent one — both for the pocketbook and the environment — and I hope you have a FABU time!

I’ve always maintained that there’s no point to taking children anywhere special on vacation as long as they’re still impressed by a visit to the grocery store. If they can’t get off a plane and understand that they’re in a different city, they can stay home.

  4. VRBO Said,

I am fortunate. I live in New Hampshire, and not very far from the White Mountains.
All these years I kinda took them for granted. This year since the gas prices are so high, I think I am going to head up to the mountains for a week or two. There are great trails to hike, nice places to go fishing, plenty of nature to see. Also nice hotel, motel, bed & breakfasts, and cabins in the woods. Also maybe spend some time at the beach.

  5. Daniel Jones Said,

I love holiday time and have since I was a kid. I realy make a point of planning to go somewhere, every year. I just adore south east Asia and keep finding myself drawn there. I think it’ll be Thailand for me again this summer :) So soon now, can’t wait.
